Dr. Richard Kogan

A partnership with MU’s Center for Health Ethics assisted that program’s annual effort to connect the sciences and the arts via its Carlos Perez-Mesa, M.D. Medical Lectureship in the Humanities. In April 2022, concert pianist and psychiatrist Dr. Richard Kogan presented a public lecture about his research on music and the mind, "Schumann: Music, Mood Swings and Madness." Kogan is clinical professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and artistic director of the Weill Cornell Music and Medicine Program. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music Pre-College, Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and completed a psychiatry residency and academic fellowship at NYU.

While on campus, Kogan also delivered the School of Music’s weekly convocation for its students and faculty, Additionally, Kogan met with students and faculty to share how he has paired his career as a psychiatrist with his lifelong interest in music.
