Dr. Richard Kogan

Center for Health Ethics
April 2020

A partnership with MU’s Center for Health Ethics will assist that program’s annual effort to connect the sciences and the arts via its Carlos Perez-Mesa, MD Medical Lectureship in the Humanities. In April 2020, concert pianist and psychiatrist Dr. Richard Kogan will present a public lecture about his research on music and the mind. While on campus, Kogan will also deliver the School of Music’s weekly convocation for its students and faculty, a lecture titled “Beethoven’s Deafness: Psychological Crisis & Artistic Triumph.” Additionally, Kogan will meet with MU medical students and faculty to share how he has paired his career as a psychiatrist with his lifelong interest in music. Kogan's lecture on "Tchaikovsky: Music and Melancholy" will be at 7 p.m., April 16 at the Whitmore Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, and the presentation is free and open to the public.
