About Us

The Artist in Residence (AIR) continues MU’s strong history in the arts. Our campus has played host to great art over the years with names such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ella Fitzgerald, Sting, Andres Serrano, Lori Anderson, Faith Ringgold, Edward Albee, Tony Kushner, and Holly Hughes featured on our stages and in our exhibition halls and classrooms.

The AIR builds on that tradition. Annual visitors, both established professional artists and those emerging in their career, connect with all aspects of campus life. AIR performances, exhibitions, installations, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and symposia engage students, faculty, staff, and the community at large in arts-making and arts integration.

This work of visiting artists pairs with the already strong presence of the principals who organize the AIR collaboratively: the Museum of Art and Archaeology, the School of Music, the Department of Theatre, and the School of Visual Studies.
